(English) FREEDOM, the association of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals of Maspalomas joins the movement Black Lives Matter.
Like millions of people right now, we are affected and hurt by the death by suffocation of George Floyd by the American police on May 25, 2020. We condemn all acts of violence and racism against people regardless of their skin color or origin that suffer daily at the hands of those who hold power and abuse it.
The LGBTQ community cannot be understood without the black community. Recall that activist, black transsexual Marsha P. Johnson was a veteran of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York. Thanks to these riots, the LGBTQ community was given great visibility and since then various organizations have been founded in favor of the rights of our people.
The celebration of LGBT Pride both in Maspalomas and in any other point of the planet always promotes and claims diversity, tolerance and respect for all people regardless of their sexual orientation. We condemn hatred and racism and will continue to do so as long as abuses of power and acts such as that suffered by George Floyd continue to occur.
Now more than ever our community must remain united and show support and solidarity to the black community.
